It’s been a long time since I’ve written a line of code and I’m a little out of practice. With programming, if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it. I haven’t done anything major or minor for that matter and I’m starting to forget how to even start writing code. For a while, I forgot how to start off a line of code in PHP.

I came across a site called Project Euler which is a site that will provides problems for mathematicians and programmers to solve. I was reading the Daily WTF and there was a little post about asking an interviewee about a problem that he had to solve. I’m not sure what the guy was thinking but his answer was rather long. There are betters ways to simplify the code and apparently, he didn’t know about it. I haven’t given that particular problem a go yet but I’ll get to it when I get there.

Project Euler is a series of challenging mathematical/computer programming problems that will require more than just mathematical insights to solve. Although mathematics will help you arrive at elegant and efficient methods, the use of a computer and programming skills will be required to solve most problems.

The motivation for starting Project Euler, and its continuation, is to provide a platform for the inquiring mind to delve into unfamiliar areas and learn new concepts in a fun and recreational context.

I’ve decided that in order to keep my brain functioning and my programming skills sharp, I’ll be writing my own code to solve each problem. I’ll post my results here along with the solution.
