Last weekend, Randy Pausch passed away due to metastasized pancreatic cancer. I’ve never met him in person but I’ve watched a video of his last lecture. It was very inspirational and very motivating. Pausch was a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon and his last lecture was viral.
I’ve heard of people advising others to have fun with their lives and live it out to the fullest but none of them made as much impact as Pausch. He was living with cancer and the doctors gave him six months to live but Pausch managed to live five months longer than expected.
Pausch’s lecture remained me of a book that I once read, Tuesdays with Morrie, which is one of my favourite books. The book was about a dying professor having a discussion about life with one of his students. In a way, it’s similar to what Pausch is doing only he’s talking to everyone. Videos of his lecture spread across the internet and he became one of the most influential people in the world.
I’d recommend that everyone take a look at the video if you’ve got some time. It’s really an eye opener. Pausch talks about the lessons that he’s learned and gives advice on how to achieve their own career and personal goals.
