Today is the release date of Sony’s new cutting-edge gaming console, the PlayStation 3. It’s supposed to promise high definition for incredibly realistic images but lately, I haven’t heard a lot of good reviews about it. It comes with either a 20GB or 60GB hard drive. Already, hardcore gamers are standing in line in hopes that they get their on this expensive machine.
Much like the release of any new gaming console, there are those who want to be the first to get their hands on it. In order to be one of the first to get their hands on the console, people literally camp outside the stores. I would hate to be them right now because it’s wet and cold outside today.
I’ve heard on the radio that the host bumped into a man who was at Tim Horton’s getting coffee for him and his wife. His wife was waiting in line to get the PS3. The couple was waiting since last night. How crazy is that? All this for a gaming console.
The new PS3 is retailing for $659.99 at Futureshop for the 60GB model. As far as I know, for that price, it doesn’t include a game. All that you get are the console and the controller. Since it doesn’t come with any games, you’re going to look into buying at least two games. The games are selling for $59.99 a piece. And it’s not going to be any fun if you’re playing by yourself so you’re going to have to pick up another controller which means another $59.99. So in total, you’re spending $957.55 for the whole thing. That’s a thousand dollars gone down the drain.
People are freezing their balls off waiting in line outside in order to spend $1000. I don’t understand why people do this? It’s just a gaming console. If they wait a while, they can get it cheaper than what it’s selling for right now. If they really want to play, they can go to any Futureshop, spend the day there and play on their demo console.
These are kids that are waiting for the system either. They’re grown men and women who apparently have nothing else better to do. I’ve heard of people waiting in line since Wednesday. It’s been raining the last few days so these guys came prepared. One guy one of those patio umbrellas with him. I’m surprised he didn’t bring his whole barbeque set.
I don’t know why there’s even a line up in the first place. Every Futureshop location has a total of twenty consoles for sale. So the twenty-first person in line should have just left and not waste their time. It would have been smarter to go and find another Futureshop that didn’t have a line up yet. I don’t know what those people were thinking. If Futureshop has twenty consoles to sell and they’re beyond the twentieth point, they might as well go home and cry. Or at least try to cut in line or something.
I don’t know about you but I can wait for a console. I never buy things the day they come out. I don’t see the reason why I need to be one of the first people to play a game. Game consoles aren’t perfect the day they come out. There’s always the likelihood that something is going to go wrong. All those people who bought the system the day it came out are going to get really mad if it doesn’t live up to their expectations.
