Stay or leave

I received a call earlier this morning about a job that I had applied for. They’ve offered me a position and training starts next Monday. I’m currently debating whether I should stay my current job or leave. There are reasons as to why I would like to stay but there are also the same amount of reason as to why I should leave.

The new job is in Brantford, about twenty minutes away from Hamilton. The cost to get down there is about ten dollars each way. So I’m looking at a hundred dollars a week on transportation alone. But that’s not the only problem. I’ve been checking the bus schedules and it seems that Greyhound is the only bus that will get me there but it doesn’t leave Hamilton until 8:00am. Brantford is twenty-five kilometers but for some reason, it takes the bus an hour to get there. My shift is supposed to start at 8:30am. So I have no idea how I’m gonna get there on time.

On the other hand, if I stay in security, I have a feelling I’ll be stuck there for a while. I’ve been working at the library for almost 3 years and that’s a long time to be working there because there are a lot of crazy people. I’m surprised I’ve managed to keep my sanity for this long. Being in security, you have to put up with shit from everyone, patrons, staff members, contractors, you name it. And I think I’ve taken all I can handle.

The good thing about working in security is that it’s close to home. It’s about a five minute walk, so I’m saving myself twenty dollars a day on transportation. And I’ve worked out the math too. Since I’m spending twenty dollars a day, that’s equivalent to work six hours a day, minus an hour for lunch, that’ll bring us to five hours a day. Those five hours a day for five days is the same as working five days, part time at the library.

So in the end, I’ll be making the same amount at either jobs. The only thing is, with security, I’ll save money on transportation but I’ll have to put up with the crazies. Staying at the library will save me the hassle of commuting back and forth. But moving on to the new job, I’ll be in a new work environment which will prevent me from being bored, but I don’t know how long that’ll last. Plus, I’ll be working on the computer most of the time, which means I’ll be able to make this page every better! Oh, and they say i get free parking! Yeah, I’ve got a place to park my rollerblade! Can’t go wrong with that.
